MEAL Hub Meeting

01/17/2024 09:00 AM - 10:00 AM ET

Description

The next session in our series on creative faith-sensitive MEAL and research methods will take place on Wednesday 17 January 2024, 9-10am (New York) | 2-3pm (London) | 5-6pm (Nairobi).

The topic will be bottom-up project co-design and its relevance to working with/as faith-based development actors.

While development actors have been extensively talking about decolonisation, localisation, participation and inclusion, community-led development and much more, there is very limited discussion on how those aspects are taken into consideration when development projects are designed. Development practitioners tend to ask questions related to them during MEAL, but may not truly consider them when they think about the project design and other earlier stages. Moreover, development practitioners often use project design tools such as theory of change, logical framework matrix or outcome mapping, but do not always consider how these design tools and approaches are intertwined with community led development.

To unpack some of these challenges, we will have the opportunity to learn about bottom-up project co-design in our next MEAL hub session with one of our co-chairs, Mukunda Adhikari. Mukunda works as Development Effectiveness Advisor with Transform Aid International, Australia and as Research Consultant in the Institute for Sustainable Futures at University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
